Looking for high-quality replacement earpads to elevate your listening experience on your Fostex TH series cans? Our Fostex TH Series Replacement Earpads offer enhanced comfort in a variety of different Elite Series materials — including our Elite Sheepskin, Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin, Elite Velour, and Elite Hybrid earpads. We make each replacement earpad with our industry-leading ultra-slow rebounding, high-density memory foam, which allows the pads to easily conform to the shape of your head (with or without glasses) and create a much tighter seal. Because we use high-density memory foam and various other fabrics in our earpad designs, you can expect some tweaks to the overall sound signature. For our measurement tests, we used the Fostex TH900 mk2 headphones — a highly regarded dynamic headphone in the market space. Although we used the Fostex TH900 mk2 for our measurements, our Fostex TH Series Replacement Earpads fit a number of Fostex headphones such as the Fostex TH900, T20RP, T40RP, and T50RP. Now, let’s take a look at our recorded replacement earpad measurements utilizing our Audio Precision-based measurement rig with the Fostex TH900 mk2 headphones.

Up next we have our Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin replacement earpads. These earpads utilize the same authentic and supple sheepskin, however, they also contain small perforations (holes) inside and outside of the earpad. We designed perforations into the pads to help reduce sound reflections and heat inside the earpad, in order to deliver a more airy listening experience. The sound signature of our Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin pads closely resembles the stock earpads, specifically in the low-frequency content. As we move into the mid and highs, we can see a more noticeable difference. From around 400 Hz onward, the increase in amplitude is present in these frequency ranges. The boost in the mid and high-frequency ranges creates a more intimate listening experience with a larger emphasis on vocals and instruments such as guitars and violins. If you enjoy classical music, these would likely suit your needs.

Our plush and tightly woven Elite Velour replacement earpads have the highest thread count of any other velour earpads we’ve seen on the market. With a very soft and breathable exterior, we recorded a similar frequency response to the Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin earpads. Compared to the Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin and stock earpads, the Elite Velour earpads have a slightly larger boost in the lower frequency content. There is also a large boost in the mid and high-frequency ranges, starting at roughly 400 Hz. Contrary to a lot of other velour earpads that lose low and high-end pitch quantity, our Elite Velour earpads are able to maintain the highs and mids with a boost in presence.

Last but not least, we have our Elite Hybrid replacement earpads. These earpads utilize each material in our Elite lineup with a solid sheepskin exterior, a fenestrated sheepskin interior, and a velour face that clamps to your head. The Elite Hybrid earpads replicate a similar frequency response curve as the stock earpads with the largest boost in the low frequencies compared to our other replacement earpad raw measurements. At around the 400-500 Hz range, we measured slightly less energy in that lower midrange, but as we move higher up in the frequency spectrum, you will notice a boost in the mid to high range. This is much like our Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin and Elite Velour earpads where we see a large boost in the mid to high-range frequencies.

While our frequency response measurements are here to help, your personal preference and enjoyment are most important. A great feature of Fostex’s pad mount design is the relative ease of changing pads, so you can pad swap and experiment on a whim. With the subjective factor in mind, we listen to our earpads for long periods of time and go through several revisions before we release them. We always strive to offer both a recreation of the original sound signature of the stock earpads and also some tunings with slight tweaks that can offer a more unique and enjoyable listening experience.
