Dekoni Custom Series for Grado Headphones
Hey, Dekoni Fans! After years of development and listening to our passionate customers and audiophiles, we’re more than proud to announce our new earpads for the Grado headphones.
Our new Grado earpads are available in our brand new Custom Series earpads line, including the following materials:
The Custom Series earpads for the Grado earpads came after a long development process that required dozens of revisions and tweaks. They were designed specifically for Grado-style headphones and improving the comfort and listening experience of the user.
We decided to construct the pads with a fast rebounding regular foam as opposed to our usual high density memory foam to allow the pad to retain its shape, instead of compressing molding to your head. This allowed for a more even pressure distribution and lighter weight. In addition to adding the three different materials on the exterior of the pad, we included a velour interior in each pad. The velour interior helps to vent out the bass, allowing for a more balanced sound and better tuning capabilities with the exterior material.
For those of you with bigger ears who may have found the stock pads to be uncomfortable, we increased the diameter of the earholes, allowing for a more spatial and comfortable listening experience.
Now, without further ado, let’s dive into the measurements and some of the changes our new Custom earpads offer for the Grado headphones.
Starting with the Custom Velour earpads for the Grado headphones, you’ll notice a slight increase in the low frequency content. However, they maintain a similar roll off as the stock pads, so this change isn’t as apparent.
You’ll notice the same for the low mids, as they are similar to the stock pads up to 1.5kHz, until we see a slight dip in the midrange. This keeps the sound signature from sounding nasal.
And lastly, you’ll hear a slight boost in the higher frequencies, which allows for more clarity while listening.
Up next we have the Custom Sheepskin earpads. These come with a leather sheepskin exterior with a velour interior.
If you’re interested in experimenting with the sound signature of your Grado headphones, these are the pads for you. As you can see in the chart above, there is very pronounced bump in low frequency content, something commonly said to be sometimes lacking in Grados. This produces a very warm sound signature where the low frequencies will may overpower the rest of the frequency spectrum.
You’ll also notice dips in the mids, which will result in more recessed vocals. The mid and higher frequencies, however, are relatively close to stock, although it may seem less pronounced due to the increased bass.
Our Custom Fenestrated Sheepskin earpads nearly perfectly match the sub bass and low frequencies of the stock sound. Another less slight change you’ll find is a dip in the upper low frequencies, which essentially reduces the low-end punch.
For the low mids, there is a slight reduction at 1.5k, causing a lesser presence in this area. You may find bass lines and similar sounds recessed in the mix.
And lastly, you’ll find a reduced peak in the high-mid and high-frequency areas. This will even out the sparkle and harmonics of some instruments.

We know this is something a lot of you asked for and it’s been a long journey for us to achieve the perfect construction of Grado Dekoni pads that offers a diverse lineup of sound signatures with maximum comfort.
Our improvements to the shape of the pad will hopefully give some of our friends some more wiggle room for their larger ears. We also know that stock pads, in general, are more than likely not going to satisfy everyone. That’s why it’s our goal to giving you guys more options for comfort and sound signature that offers that perfect listening experience.
