The XM5 is one of the best-selling noise-canceling headphones ever made. The texture grips lightly, so your XM5 stays put without cranking down the clamp, and it breathes better than smooth leather, so you get less of the sweaty-ear problem on long sessions. Choice Leather
Premium feel without the premium price. Choice Leather is a soft synthetic PU leather, 100% vegan, supple and quiet, with none of the plasticky crinkle you get from cheap stock pads. It seals cleanly against the cup to hold the XM5's isolation, and it uses the same memory foam as our Elite series, so you're not trading away comfort or foam life to save money. The easy everyday upgrade.
Protein Leather
Our standard for luxury. This is an eggshell-protein leather formulated to behave like human skin, and it feels the part: thinner, lighter and softer than cowhide, so there's less pressure on your ears over a long listen. The seal is the tightest in the lineup, which is exactly what the XM5's ANC wants. Matte finish, the same class of material Japanese audiophile brands put on their flagship stock pads. Pick this if you want maximum comfort and give up nothing on isolation.
Alpine
Built for people who run hot. The trick is a thermal barrier layer sitting between the outer material and the foam. It works as a heat sink: instead of one spot getting warm and staying warm, it pulls heat off that spot and spreads it across the whole face of the pad so it can dissipate. Most pads trap warmth against your ear over a long session. Alpine moves it away. Same memory foam and the same isolating seal underneath, now with actual thermal management on top.
