The Mobius headphones by Audeze are seemingly unique gaming headphones. They offer an abundance of technology — such as 3D head tracking, room emulation, and Bluetooth, all packed into a planar driver headphone. These are features you don’t typically find in gaming headsets. Due to these headphones' remarkable features and popularity, we wanted to create high-quality replacement earpads that complement these headphones and offer a more comfortable and unique listening experience. The earpads we have available for the Audeze Mobius headphones include our Choice Leather and Choice Suede lines of earpads. Both are vegan (synthetic leather) and offer cushiony and synthetic outer materials with slow rebound, high density memory foam that conforms to the shape of your head. Our ear pads also fit the Audeze Penrose gaming headphones. Check out the Dekoni Verified fit chart we have available on our website under all of our replacement earpad products.
Before we jump into the measurement data, we want you to note that we measured our Choice earpads with the Mobius headset, we bypassed the Bluetooth connection and used the 3.5mm cable included with the headset. This allowed us to bypass the digital signal processing and test the pure sound signature of the drivers. The purposes of these graphs are to show the differences between our Dekoni Audio ear pads compared to the stock ear pads included with the Mobius headphones within our test parameters.
The Mobius earpads use pressure-sensitive adhesives to adhere the pad to the headphone. When you remove the adhesive some of it might remain and interrupt the seal of the new set of earpads. Make sure to clean the adhesive as thoroughly as possible before applying your new replacement earpads. Typically we recommend using an adhesive removal like Goo Gone. The last thing we want to mention is that we do compensate for listening positions in our graphs. We take five measurements for each earpad; the first measurement is a neutral center position which we weigh higher when averaging. Now, without further ado, let's jump into our measurement data for the Audeze Mobius headphones with our Choice Leather and Suede replacement earpads.

The first thing to notice with our Choice Leather earpads is the boost in low-frequency content. There is also a notable dip in the midrange at around 2.5kHz. The other noticeable difference is that the high-frequency content has a bit more gain with the Choice Leather earpads. If we’re talking gaming headsets here, one could say that the noticeable boost in the bass could add to the immersive feeling of the headphones. Explosions and rumbles in your game will sound more pronounced and vivid with these earpads. One last note is that the boost in the high-frequency range could help with bringing out footsteps and some of the reverberations in your game. If you are a competitive gamer, this could give you a bit of an edge with the slight boost in highly directional sounds, creating more immersion and a wider soundstage.

Much like our Choice Leather earpads, our Choice Suede offers a noticeable boost to the low-frequency content. However, if you’re a bass head, these pads are for you as these earpads offer a much larger boost to the lower frequencies compared to the Choice Leather earpads. We would assume that the major boost in the low-frequency range is a result of the tighter seal due to its more irregular outer surface compared to the leather material. When looking at the graph, you can see a bit of crisscrossing between the two sound signatures. We can see it begin to criss-cross at around 800Hz, where the suede material is a little lower than the stock earpads. However, this shouldn’t make an audible difference in the sound signature at this level. At 1.5kHz, some of the upper fundamentals of instruments start to recede, this boost can make orchestral soundtracks or any heavy bass video game music sound a bit heavier in the mids. Again, the inversion appears at around 2.5kHz, which will bring down the upper end of some string instruments. Much like the Choice Leather earpads, the last noticeable difference happens at around 10.5kHz, where we see some air boosted, making directional sounds a little more pronounced and easier to hear.
As you can see in both of our Choice Leather and Suede graphs, the most apparent change is the emphasis on bass. If the bass is something you’d like to increase in your immersive gaming experience, then these are the replacement earpads for you. Don’t forget to check out our Dekoni Verified fit chart for these earpads before making any purchases. This is to ensure that you get the correct earpads that can fit properly with your headphones. These earpads, in particular, will be able to fit both the Audeze Mobius and Penrose headphones. With that said, if you’re interested in upgrading the comfort of your Mobius or Penrose headphones and exploring a new profound sound signature, check out our Choice Leather and Choice Suede earpads.
