In this current digital age, content creation and digital marketing, alike, have become an ever-expanding business practice due to the massive increase in online presence.

Everyone surfs the web these days, whether it’s with their phones, computers, tablets, Ipads, etc. Digital and technological advancements continue, as well as social media and its massive popularity. Because of this, digital marketing and content creation have been essential for growing businesses and increasing brand awareness to people all over the world.

Coming from a mixed background in filmmaking and business while studying at college, I decided I wanted to become more familiar with content creation due to its growing popularity. Due to content creation being centered around delivering engaging media to viewers online, it seemed like something that interested me and suited my personal skillset in both video and creative writing.

But, one of the best things about working in content creation is that you can learn a lot of new things. Lots of people who work in content creation — whether it’s content writers, videographers, photographers, graphic designers, etc — work with a variety of different clients in different industries. However, those similar to me, decide to work for a company in an industry they’re not as familiar with.

I’ve personally never been much of an audiophile or someone who classifies themself as an expert in audio, but I still found myself working in this industry. Why might this be?

So, without further ado, let’s jump into my experience working as a content creator for an audio company.

From Audio Casual To Audiophile

Like I’ve mentioned before, upon joining Dekoni Audio, I had very little knowledge of audio, or headphones specifically. I’ve only ever worn headphones or earphones created by companies such as Beats, Apple, or Bose. This would basically classify me as an audio casual to most people more familiar with audio.

But ever since I’ve started working for Dekoni Audio, which specifically deals with headphones and headphone accessory products, I quickly developed a new understanding of audio and the massive appreciation and marketplace it has around the world.

I never knew this but there are a ton of people who care deeply about their headphones and audio products, which is fascinating. Something I also learned is that some pairs of headphones cost several thousand dollars, which is insane in my eyes.

However, spending time creating content for Dekoni Audio has given me the opportunity to try some of the expensive and high-end headphones, which was really neat. But one of the things I’ve noticed and learned from our product manager is that audio is subjective and sometimes $200 headphones can sound better than $2000 headphones.

Of course, the engineering and frequency response measurements behind the headphones are objective and what typically justifies the cost, but it doesn’t guarantee complete satisfaction for the user. Learning this blew my mind because I figured if anyone purchases a pair of thousand-dollar headphones, they’re most likely going to get the best audio possible — but that isn’t the case.

Now, by any means, I wouldn’t call myself an audiophile just because I’ve learned a good sum about audio since I’ve been working for Dekoni Audio — but I would say that it’s opened my eyes to the incredible and large-scale industry that is audio. It’s an industry fueled by passion and the creative minds of an array of different people — audio engineers, studio engineers, musicians, audiophiles, video recording artists, etc. The list goes on and it’s truly an inspiration to me to continue to develop my knowledge and creative capabilities within the realm of film and content creation.

Again, as I mentioned earlier, that is the beauty of working in content creation. You get to work for different companies and businesses of all types. Content is needed for businesses in all types of industries and I was given the amazing opportunity to work for a business within the audio industry.

Never did I think I’d know what a DAC (digital audio converter) was, or what the amount of Ohms in a headphone meant, but that’s something I learned, and it’s a great perk of working in content. You get to research and learn a lot.

If you’re interested in content creation and you wish to learn more about a specific industry, don’t be afraid to apply for a job in that industry. It’s a surefire way to expand your knowledge and improve your capabilities as a content creator.

Working With DMS (Established YouTuber)

As a content creator, you get to do many fun and exciting things, like getting the opportunity to work with a well-known YouTuber such as DMS.

Our product manager arranged multiple video shoots with DMS and I was responsible for all the filming and putting the videos together at the end. The great thing about working with DMS is that I not only got to learn a lot about audio and headphones, but I got to expand my video and content creation knowledge.

As someone who is not only familiar with audio but also video and content, DMS taught me quite a bit about YouTube and content optimization for generating more viewers and awareness.

When you’re creating content for YouTube there are a ton of different strategies and tips — such as the equipment you should use, the setup of the scene you’re shooting in, the thumbnails, SEO optimization, etc. For someone who isn’t quite as familiar with YouTube as DMS, this was a fantastic opportunity to learn for my personal growth and for our company.

Shooting the videos was a lot of fun and a great experience. Not only did I get some video pointers from DMS himself, but he introduced me to headphone audio and the interpretations we get when listening to the different frequencies and sound shapes of headphones.

I really enjoyed working with him, especially when we created our Headphone Hero experiment video, which involved putting a pair of HD600 headphones into the case and seeing if Dylan, our product manager, and DMS could break them.

If you’d like to see whether or not the HD600 headphones broke or not, check out our video below.

What I Hope To Gain

I believe that content creation is a great career path for those that are curious. For those who love to learn new and exciting things while delivering powerful, engaging, and informative content to people around the globe.

The large, ever-growing digital world is not going away anytime soon, which opens the doors for myself and those of you interested in digital content and marketing. For me, working in content creation for Dekoni Audio has given me the opportunity to learn something I never thought I learn and to expand my knowledge in content creation.

Of course, for any content creator, I hope to further my creative skills — whether it’s writing these blogs or other articles, videography, or SEO best practices. I want to become an expert in my field, similar to audiophiles and audio experts who inspire me to learn something new every day within my field.

To sum this all up, don’t be afraid to try something new because you never know what doors will burst open once you step into the room.
